Note | The baby of Patrick and Esther's family was William, whom everyone eventually called Uncle Will. He was only three years old when his mother died so he must have used Kate as a “mother image". He was not only the youngest, he was the shortest. Jim and Art were six-footers; Jack was 5‘ 6", but he was just a little shorter. Jack was slim, but he was more on the roly-poly style. Once he married, he moved to Cold Spring Harbor (on the Island) where he worked for the New York State Fish Hatchery. His wife, Lucy, died at age seventy-five, but he lived to be eighty-eight.- Once or twice a year, he'd take a train trip and visit Greenport. As he got older, he was a handsome man. A roly-poly stature, cherubic face and a full head of pure white hair. He had a knee that was bothering him. He sons prevailed on him to enter the hospital to have it fixed. While there he contracted pneumonia and died. His son, James Donald, known as Don, is the last of his generation. He turned eighty-seven in 1994. When contacted about his family information, at age eighty-six, he climbed in his car and visited three cemeteries to get the info. |
